  • Overview


    This facility produces bacon products, starting with fresh pork bellies and resulting in bacon topping products, and both pre-cooked and uncooked bacon slices, for foodservice. General labor/entry-level production workers will ensure that product meets the customers’ requirements in every stage of processing. Jobs will include the movement of raw materials through the required processes, and the counting, weighing, verifying, and packaging of end-product, in an efficient, safe, and sanitary manner, following written job instructions. In areas where sanitation is performed, the work will also require meeting sanitary/cleanliness standards and use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.


    Essential Functions:


    • Perform production and/or sanitation tasks according to stated work instructions, as efficiently as possible, in a production-line environment, as assigned by the supervisor.
    • Safely operate production and sanitation equipment and machinery, use of tools, and handling of product from the raw state through the packaging process.
    • Compliance with all Good Manufacturing Practices, SQF/USDA/OSHA/ISO requirements, Environmental protection practices, as well as safety regulations, safe work practices, and job rotation.
    • Read, understand, and follow written work instructions.
    • Maintain accurate and complete records of production, hours worked, outputs, etc., as required
    • Maintain a clean work environment, including passing post-sanitation activity inspection.
    • Inspect, grade, count, stack, move, cook, chill, and/or package product that complies with customers’ requirements and product specifications.
    • Take appropriate corrective and preventive actions when necessary to ensure safe quality food. Perform rework tasks as assigned.
    • Regular attendance and adherence to the work schedule
    • Ability to work together with others as a team to achieve maximum outputs in a diverse workplace

    Education and Experience Requirement: High School diploma or equivalent is highly preferred. At a minimum, must be able to read, comprehend, write, and perform basic mathematical calculation.   Must have recent work history showing consistency in employment.


    Availability and Hours of Work: Must be available to work on any shift in any department. General labor employees will be moved as needed by the business, to different positions, departments, or shifts if necessary. No department or position guarantee is made to new hires. Some jobs are more difficult than others. Acceptable performance is required wherever the employee is placed. Employees are required to have and maintain reliable transportation to prevent unnecessary absence.

    Physical Demands

    Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.     • Employees are regularly required to use both hands to manipulate, handle, grasp, feel, pinch, push, pull, and retrieve product; grasping of tools, hoses, knives, hooks, etc.; substantial movement and motion of the wrists, hands, arms, elbows, head/neck, shoulders, and back. Ability to twist and bend at the waist is required for most tasks. Occasional stretching, use of the back, and reaching up, down, and forward.   Must be able to count, and maintain correct counts of, product while adjusting, correcting, arranging, stacking, and moving product along a production line. Must have the visual acuity to see and correct product defects.
    • Prolonged standing is required, broken up from time to time by walking short distances and movement within assigned job rotation. Standing on a work platform, elevated from the floor, is required. Working from an automated man-lift at an elevation of up to 12 feet from the floor is necessary in some positions. Must be able to maintain balance, especially in front of moving conveyors. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs and ladders. Some positions may require squatting, kneeling, or crouching.
    • Must be able to frequently lift more than 25 lbs. overhead, intermittently lift and carry up to 60 lbs., and occasionally push/pull/lift/carry/or exert up to 100 lbs. of force.
    • Ability to work in setting with various potential irritants, such as pepper, liquid smoke or other flavorings, cardboard, glue, vinyl, latex, etc.   Third shift employees will also participate in sanitation duties at times, which will require contact and close-proximity work with chemicals, including acids, caustics, chlorine, sanitizers, detergents, etc., both in liquid, foam, and spray forms.  
    • Constant exposure to cold temperatures in production settings (40° F and below, including sub-freezing temperatures in some areas.) Constant exposure to loud noises, requiring use of hearing protection at all times. Constant exposure to wet conditions or slippery floors, requiring the use of company-provided footwear. Company-provided protective eyewear and hardhats are required at all times. Other protective equipment may be required, based on assigned task. Sanitation work will involve constant exposure to very warm and humid conditions.
      • Employees are required to use hearing protection, eye protection, a hard-hat, gloves, smocks, plastic sleeves, aprons, and protective footwear at all times. Sanitation work will also include the use of chemical goggles, face shields, rubberized suits (jackets and overalls), mesh or other protective gloves. All of these types of required items are provided by the Company.
