  • Overview

    The Director of Heparin Operations will be responsible for all processes, procedures, and operations of the Heparin recovery within in our Harvest facilities. This position will be instrumental in helping Operations achieve 60,000-70,000 MMUs through innovative processes and procedures. The incumbent will work with sales and the Celsus Laboratories to ensure a high-quality product is obtained for further processing.


    • Accountable for multi-site plant Heparin operations.
    • Defines and recommends the strategic direction needed to achieve long-term operating and profit goals related to the extraction of heparin.
    • Defines and directs administration of policies and procedures for each facility’s rendering operation within context of companywide policies.
    • Formulates short- and long-term operating objectives in areas such as quality improvement, cost reduction, manufacturing/processing efficiency, and new product development.
    • Develops and implements plans to achieve appropriate production volumes and profit projections.
    • Work with manufacturing facilities to ensure employee and food safety.
    • Control costs required to produce products in line with established budgets; manage capital projects in accordance within established timelines and budget.
    • Ensures all quality standards, specifications and policies are met or exceeded; drives continuous process / manufacturing improvements and collaborates with Research and Development in product development and implementation.
    • Assures regulatory compliance including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, USDA, FDA, FLSA, EEO, OFCCP and NLRB.
    • Provides project leadership support as directed by the EVP of Operations – Fresh.

    • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 10+ years of relevant experience in project management/engineering capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
    • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in a position of plant leadership to include team development and management, required.
    • Experience in the food industry, required.
    • Experience motivating, training and coaching employees to encourage optimum performance and engagement.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and executive leadership, via written and/or verbal communication.
    • Strong organizational skills that includes proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; prior experience using SAP desirable.
    • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
    • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
    • Requires travel, up to 50% of the time.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Provides leadership and guidance to multiple manufacturing departments within plants.
    • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation for all rendering departments within span of control.
    • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    • The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
    • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
