    The Sr. Supply Planner manages perishable food inventories at Smithfield Foods meat manufacturing facilities, 3rd party manufacturing facilities and distribution centers to support sales activity. Where applicable; maintains capacity plans for the manufacturing facilities.  Works with manufacturing facilities and/or suppliers in scheduling production to support sales activity at the least landed cost and achieves targeted fill rate, days on hand inventory and distress ratio to sales. The senior level planner works with highly complex product categories.

    Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

    1. Plans and manages inventories for Smithfield plants to achieve Fill Rate, DOH (Days on Hand Inventory) and inventory turns to company set targets.
    2. Plans and manages inventories for Smithfield plants’ distress ratio to sales to company set targets.
    3. Effectively plans production capacity within fiscal objectives to meet production efficiencies, distress, turns and fill rate objectives.
    4. Interacts with Demand Planning and Business Management to ensure inventory planning is based on most current and accurate forecasts.
    5. Plans, manages and coordinate Co-packer production and inventory management including deployment to achieve fill rates, distress, DOH (Days on Hand Inventory) and turns objectives.
    6. Interacts with Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Logistics to accomplish scheduling of production and inventories to support all Sales Channels (Retail, Food Service, Industrial, DSD, Deli, International, and Intra-company).
    7. Provides resolution and execution to key shortage issues.
    8. Ability to prepare and analyze short and long range capacity plans.
    9. Provides miscellaneous support to manufacturing plants and builds supplier relationships.
    10. Acts as a lead by training, mentoring and providing guidance to less experienced Supply Planners.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years’ of experience in inventory control management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 5+ years experience in inventory control, preferrably for perishable items in either the meat industry or in a food manufacturing environment, required.
    • Intermediate to Advanced level Excel skills are required.
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access Data Base. 
    • Logility and SAP 6.0 experience would be plus.
    • APICS CPIM or CSCP certification is preferred but not required.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work with various levels of Management.
    • Manages multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
    • Strong sense of urgency.
    • Ability to travel up to 10%.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may act as a lead by providing training and guidance to others in Supply Planning.
