    Responsible for developing strong working relationships with users of the SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) system, functioning as the end users’ lead representative on technology issues, and configuring and customizing SAP HCM specifically Payroll and Personnel Administration modules.


    Work with Business and IT resources developing an understanding of requirements, functional specifications, testing, and delivery focusing on ‘HCM best practice solutions’. Plan and manage application design and architecture activities within the HCM payroll environment. Coordinate periodic system updates with 3rd party providers such as BSI Tax TUBS and SAP Support Packs. Participate in project work as well as provide day-to-day support when necessary.

    Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

    • Utilize overall understanding of payroll from a business, best practice and technology standpoint to troubleshoot and resolve payroll system issues 
    • Support for BSI taxation tool in an environment with multiple tax companies, many state/local agencies and reciprocity considerations
    • Support for payroll including payroll areas, control records, wage types retroactive accounting, deductions, schemas, garnishments (face paced high volume), taxes, EFT, off-cycle activities and third-party remittances
    • Support for Payroll downstream processes such as 3rd party remittance, banking and Posting to FICO
    • Manage and participate in the design, configuration, testing, debugging and implementation of changes and enhancements to the SAP HCM system, across multiple submodules
    • Project preparation, Business Process Blueprinting, Gap analysis, Configuration, Unit and Integration Testing, Cutover Preparation, Go Live, Production support and data clean up in SAP HCM projects
    • Provide technical HCM payroll support/configuration for acquisition implementations, system enhancements, year-end activities, HRSP’s and upgrades
    • Serve as the payroll teams’ main point of contact for IT with any critical system performance issues. Communicate issues impacting daily operations to the HCM teams and provide updates on resolution. Work with Managers to ensure performance issues are resolved and communicate any identified business impact.
    • Assist the company in forming a long-range strategic roadmap for Human Capital Management across Smithfield by integrating future business needs and requirements with the SAP HCM system’s capabilities and functionality. This will include the opportunity to work with SAP HANA and S/4 HANA as it relates to HCM/Payroll.
    • Work with business to design functional specifications for reports and assist in the development of reports to manage ongoing business needs.

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of significant SAP HCM systems experience and functional experience focused on Payroll with in-depth knowledge of BSI taxation, garnishments, posting to FICO and 3rd party integrations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 2+ years’ experience providing direct HCM payroll production support, required.
    • In-depth knowledge and understanding of HCM and IT processes in a company that employs full-time, part-time, hourly and salaried, union and non-union employees in multiple states with diverse work rules and environments.
    • 2+ years’ experience supporting SuccessFactors LMS, Succession and Compensation modules, preferred.
    • Experience with online W2’s through Employee Self Service (ESS) a plus.
    • Experience configuring BSI TaxFactory, tax models, and SAP Tax Reporter preferred.
    • Experience with managing SAP Human Resources and Payroll Support Packs upgrade projects, year-end updates and regulatory or statutory requirements, strongly preferred.
    • Must possess strong people skills to work with users of all skill levels.
    • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
    • Must be able to travel 10% of the time, dependent on projects.
