    The position summary states the general nature and purpose of the job. Overall accountabilities are defined in this section.

     

    Responsible for purchasing all packaging, ingredients/raw materials, operating supplies, equipment and capital projects following established purchasing policies. Optimizes price, delivery and terms in accordance with all policies. Reviews, prepares and analyzes monthly inventory reports, aiding in the improvement of inventory turns. Resolves purchasing problems between departments and vendor.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

    1. Responsible for raw material replenishment in accordance with company inventory management practices.
    2. Reviews and approves purchase requisitions.
    3. Issues purchase orders; secures and coordinates the delivery of raw materials to meet scheduled production dates and expedited production, follows up as necessary.
    4. Reviews the Re-Order Reports daily, as well as other system tools to identify materials needed to be purchased.
    5. Maintains inventory levels in accordance with business accepted practices and assists with inventory dispositions.
    6. Maintains accurate purchasing files including: accurate pricing, supplier lead times, minimum order quantities, freight rates, supplier contact information, fees and standard costs.
    7. Manages supplier administrative functions, including the addition or removal of supplier activation in the system. Works closely and communicates frequently with business unit stakeholders - Manufacturing, Sales, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Supply Chain, etc. to adequately understand and meet Business Unit needs and requirements.
    8. Assists with developing new supplier relationships and cultivating existing ones: including attending supplier meetings, driving the RFP bid analysis, conducting cost of ownership analysis, financial impact analysis, inventory run out analysis, supply planning analysis, system maintenance of cost, lead time, MOQ, ROP and compiling and analyzing other procurement related data.
    9. Identifies and communicates “unique” material risks and potential “obsolete” materials.
    10. Compiles month-end inventory turns reporting to assist with continuous turn improvement.
    11. Supports Research & Development, when requested, to source raw materials from the current supplier base or new suppliers.
    12. Provides ideas for productivity projects (cost savings initiatives) and works with team to complete.
    13. Assists in the evaluation of existing suppliers and selection of new suppliers.
    14. Participates in sourcing initiatives, vendor negotiations and Ideation sessions to achieve the lowest cost/ high quality product for Company Operations.
    15. May act as a lead by training, mentoring and providing guidance to less experienced Buyers.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Bachelor’s Degree from regionally accredited four-year College or university with emphasis in purchasing, materials management, supply or related field and 3-5 years of purchasing experience in a materials related function; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Must have solid understanding of production planning within an ERP/MRP system.
    • P.M., A.P.P or APICS certification, preferred.
    • Proven cost savings history within purchasing, preferred.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Access).
    • Prior SAP experience, preferred
    • Must have good planning, organizational and execution skills.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and established goals and objectives in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must have strong negotiation skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, works well with others, respectful of all team members, good time management skills.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may act as a lead by providing training and guidance to less tenured Buyers.

    Work Environment

    • The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant.  The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
    • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
