The position summary states the general nature and purpose of the job.  Overall accountabilities are defined in this section.


This position is responsible for overseeing the quality of export products.  Responsibilities include working with quality assurance (QA), operations, and product management to ensure the product is produced to the specification; and monitoring the quality systems and programs in place specifically for export products.  Other responsibilities may include verifying the integrity of specialty hog programs, from the receiving of the hog to the shipment of the finished product.  Other key duties include working with managers and customers to develop product specifications.

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:


Export Product Quality

  • Conduct routine product audit correlations and product reviews with plant management, QA and product management.
  • Review Quality Audit data and QI scores and generate weekly Export Quality Summary report.
  • Coordinate with product management to address conflicts identified between product expectations and the documented product specification, addresses and updates in the spec and/or audit criteria.
  • Conduct verification audits of cold chain management, labeling, rework control and other programs identified as critical to export product quality.
  • Audit export products in cold storage facilities to include label verification, box performance, pallet condition, box integrity and export document accuracy.
  • Monitor the continued execution of the export shelf life program, microbial monitoring and other testing associated with export product- ensuring sample collection frequency and product types are being followed according to the program.  Review shelf life data and provide feedback and direction to conduct targeted sampling as necessary.  Provide monthly comprehensive shelf life summary to SFIG management.  Participate in shelf life troubleshooting projects as necessary.

Specialty Hog Program Review

  • Conduct monthly product trace back of selected specialty program product, from the finished product to the hog source.
  • Conduct monthly review of the specialty hog program from hog receiving to shipping, verifying all controls are in place to ensure integrity of the specialty product identity and traceability of the products. 

New Products & changes to existing products

  • Work with customers and product management to set up new products and packaging based on customer expectations.
  • Facilitate the updating of specifications and audit criteria for new products and existing product specifications between export product management and QA. 

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist with customer tours and product correlations.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years’ relevant export or quality assurance experience, required.
  • Excellent understanding of the different pork cuts and main defects associated with each piece.
  • Ability to understand specs and audits as they relate to the customer expectations.
  • Proficient with work measurement concepts, practices, and procedures within the Meat Industry.
  • Ability to use exposure-monitoring, equipment, interpret and communicate results.
  • Strong interpersonal, technical and presentation skills required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite and able to take sales quality photos.

Physical Demands

  • Must perform bending, squatting, sitting and reaching from floor level to six feet in height.
  • Must be able to work in environments of different temperatures from the hot kill floors to the cold freezers.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for to inspect products both on the product floors as well as in the coolers.
  • Must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs and lift 60 pounds on a regular basis.  Some boxes can be upwards of 100 lbs.

  • Plant environment will include wet, damp, cold, slippery and loud conditions with moving and vibrating parts.
  • The noise level in the office is usually moderate, but will be loud in the production areas.
  • Must be willing to travel 20% of the time to cover all production and cold storage facilities.  International travel may be required.
  • Must be willing to work some evenings or weekends depending on production schedules, and to provide a routine presence during second shift operations.
