The Cold Storage Specialist, in an effort to maintain balanced inventories, coordinates with inventory control at the third party cold storages to research variances and adjust on/off inventory when appropriate. Prepares various reports to assist management in making informed decisions regarding processes and procedures for third party cold storages as well as analyzing inventory adjustments and/or preparing miscellaneous reports for management.

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:


Cold Storage Inventory Reconciliation

  • Handles weekly and daily reconciling, recording and researching inventory adjustments (smaller/straight forward warehouses).
  • Prepares monthly third party cold storage inventory reconciliations. This includes preparing a cover sheet for each assigned warehouse with all necessary detailed backup to support all differences.
  • Researches and provides explanations for large finished goods variances on a weekly basis.
  • Reconciles the rework account to ensure costs are added to the produced product and Smithfield is invoiced accurately.  

Inventory Responsibilities in Conjunction with Reconciliation

  • Reviews and processes rework as needed while ensuring costs are updated in the system.
  • Prepares bill backs to cold storages, as appropriate, for variances that are due to reasons such as damaged or lost product and monthly follow-up when necessary.
  • Determines if miss-shipments and billing errors should be submitted to the Claims Department for further processing.
  • Runs daily reports to ensure all inventory is accounted for and recorded accurately in SAP.  

Other Responsibilities

  • Additional monthly inventory reports as assigned.
  • Prepares or serves as a backup to inventory reporting where/when necessary.
  • Assists in analysis of inventory reporting when necessary.
  • Assists the Senior Cold Storage Specialist on third party cold storage audits.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree  from a regionally accredited college or university and 2+ years of Inventory 

    Reconciliation experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Previous SAP experience preferred.
  • Solid mathematical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Excel and the ability to manipulate large amounts of data with extreme accuracy required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to travel 5% to 10% of the time.
