The VMI Analyst will manage inventory levels at each of the customer warehouses and utilizes supply chain strategies to improve cost, service measures and optimize processes. This position serves as the replenishment manager and the liaison between the procurement department and the supply chain team. The VMI Analyst provides customer service order management for their assigned accounts and promotes efficient and consistent communications with internal and external customers, maintains accurate demand forecasts and utilizes necessary data to execute replenishment strategies.

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:


Customer Demand Forecast

  • Reviews, analyzes and updates customer demand forecasts as necessary, using SAP system and AWG warehouse information system. 

     Customer/Supply Chain

  • Engages required partners to identify supply chain strategies, align strategies and implement tactics supporting the supply chain objectives for top line growth and cost to serve.
    • Develops a systematic capability to execute differentiated service and order fulfillment strategies
    • Ability to execute advanced service and order fulfillment strategies.
  • Implements supply chain projects for programs such as plant direct shipments, Green initiatives, EDI driven business processes and damage prevention/unsalable management.

Replenishment Management

  • Ensures success of customer objectives through active inventory management and communication.
  • Monitors customer order trends and promotional activities to ensure no out of stock or over stock situations.
  • Maintains in-stocks and forecasts through performing necessary weekly and daily maintenance requirements to effectively replenish for key events such as: seasonal trends, holidays, feature ads, new item launches, one-time buys, and regular turn business.
  • Measures supply chain performance with emphasis on the customer’s directed KPI’s- fill rate, days on hand, $ inventory on hand, $ sales, $ lost sales and product turns.

Communication and Relationships

  • Communicates with internal and external customers as required to ensure optimum service levels and supply chain efficiencies. Including but not limited to late trucks, product shortages, high on hand inventory and any potential for outs to be taken at assigned customers.
  • Ensures customer account management (order fulfillment, sales operations, sales), understands service metrics, scorecard tools, and properly interpret findings.
  • Collaborates in implementation of best practices and/or KPI’s, as required. 

Performance Measurement Reports

  • Produces and distributes daily and weekly performance measurement reports applicable to each product category, replenishment manager and buyer such as: out of stock reports, in-stock reports, late trucks reports, excess inventory reports for the purpose of sharing performance levels with both internal and external parties. 
  • Provides insight into Smithfield’s replenishment performance and identifies opportunities and/or issues relating to distribution of products at each of the Distribution Centers. 


  • Assists in training new or additional analysts in respective information systems.

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 2+ years’ experience in vendor managed inventory process, customer service, inventory planning, forecasting or logistics; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of EDI and CRP or similar programs, preferred.
  • SAP experience or comparable ERP tool, preferred.
  • Demonstrates strong aptitude in math, along with problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Able to analyze data, draw reasonable conclusions, and formulate next steps.
  • Strong organizational skills and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
