The IT Business Analyst for Human Capital Management (HCM) is responsible for developing strong working relationships with users of the SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) system, functioning as the end users’ primary contact for technical and business process/regulatory issues and coordinate enterprise solutions for the SAP HCM system and other related systems.


The primary focus of the Business Analyst is to bridge the gap between business users and technical resources.   This role is responsible for understanding business requirements and translating requirements to functional specifications, testing, and implementation.

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

  1. Assists in the development and identification of HCM system needs supporting the HR, Payroll and Benefits teams.
  2. Oversees the functional configuration, modification and testing tasks for the SAP Portal (ESS/MSS), HCM module, timekeeping system and other HCM systems.
  3. Acts as the HCM business team’s liaison and voice with IT regarding acquisition implementations, system enhancements and upgrades.
  4. Utilizes project management skills to ensure work streams are properly identified and prioritized, resources are allocated and fully utilized and time lines and budgets are met.
  5. Manages and participates in the design, coding, testing, debugging and implementation of changes, enhancements and upgrades to the SAP HCM system across multiple submodules.
  6. Reviews current HCM business processes to determine where automation / improvements will drive efficiency.
  7. Recommends innovative uses of software functionality, design and implements solutions.
  8. Assists with forming a strategic roadmap for Human Capital Management across Smithfield by integrating future business needs and requirements with the SAP HCM system’s capabilities and functionality.
  9. Partners with cross functional teams to identify opportunities and supports the development of new sustainable best practice approaches while providing subject matter expertise in the Human Capital Management functional areas.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a regionally accredited college or University, requires.
  • 5+ years of systems experience and functional experience in HR/Payroll/Benefit ERP systems, required.
  • SAP HCM systems experience, strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience in project management with PMP certification, preferred.
  • Experience with the Kronos timekeeping systems and SuccessFactors, preferred.
  • Experience with SAP reporting tools including but not limited to EPIUSE Query Manager, a plus.
  • Above average expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Must be able to travel 20% of the time, dependent on projects.
