This position is responsible for supporting HRIS applications, initiatives, and projects as well as providing reports and analytics in support of Human Resources.  This role will lead and support the design and functionality of the Smithfield Pension System (SPS) and related activities in collaboration with team members.  This role will assist the Retirement Plans department with other analytical projects through researching, compiling, computing and analyzing data via a variety of external and internal resources. Serves as subject matter expert for SPS and provide system training for Defined Benefits team. This position may also supports SAP upgrades, patches, testing, implementations and integrations with other systems.

Process Improvement and Automation

  • Work directly with software vendors concerning enhancements and resolving system issues. Provides support to the department for system problems
  • Reviews, assesses and makes recommendations for new solutions, improvements, and/or enhancements to existing retirement related processes and procedures via the use of technology.
  • Recommend and implement new and improved processes to reduce redundancies and manual work and automate functions where possible.

User Support and Training

  • Develop procedures, guidelines and documentation for various HR systems, in particular the Smithfield Pension System and SAP HCM.  
  • Manages, tests and reviews system upgrades and releases to determine accurate functionality. Instructs and trains staff in system changes and upgrades.
  • Serve as technical expert and first line of support for end-users on HR systems.
  • Design, develop and deliver systems training including classroom training, webinars, job aids, and on-the-job training for existing and new users.
  • Foster productive working relationships with related groups (HR Ops, Benefits, Payroll, etc.)

Analytics, Reporting and Testing

  • Develops reports to identify and correct system errors. Utilizes reports to identify data gaps and opportunities for improvement. Administers assigned components of SPS system and processes according to Plan documents, company policies, procedures and/or laws. 
  • Design and generate a variety of standard and ad-hoc reports to support management in the areas of workforce analytics as well as required compliance reporting.
  • Identify, analyze and catalog report requests for relevancy and utilization throughout the organization.
  • Participate in testing process for all SAP HCM changes including upgrades, patches and implementations and integrations with other systems.

Data Integrity/System Administration

  • Reviews and audits retirement plan data on a quarterly basis; takes actions to help ensure integrity in systems and processes. Analyzes data to identify trends, problems and propose solutions.
  • Ensure data integrity and efficient processing of HR data by demonstrating knowledge of datasets and organizational structure.
  • Provide Organizational Management (OM) set up for production organizations.
  • Serve as System Administrator for various SuccessFactors modules and applicant tracking system.


Special Projects

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or University in Business, Human Resources, Information Management or other related field and 3+ years of HRIS related experience; required.
  • Employee Retirement Benefits experience is desirable.
  • SAP HCM experience, preferred.
  • Strong analytical/diagnostic skills with aptitude and passion for process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive HR processes and to deliver high quality services.
  • Functional understanding of HRIS design, structure and processes. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Ability to research and analyze various types of data.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
