This job description indicates the nature of production work routinely performed by production employees at the Smithfield plant.  This description is meant to help individuals who may be unfamiliar with food processing and what is required to perform this type of work.


Production employees are routinely required to perform a variety of tasks that require manual material handling and the use of hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment.  This work is physically demanding and can require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups.  Good hand-eye coordination and upper extremity motor skills are essential for most job tasks. Additional essential functions may be applicable to specific jobs.

  • Verify correct equipment setups with maintenance/ Verificar el equipo correcto con mantenimiento
  • Changeover equipment/ Cambiar equipo
  • Ensure meat is available at the line when needed/ Asegurarse que la carne este disponible en la línea cuando se necesite
  • Root-cause issues on the line and provide recommendations for correction/ Identificar problemas en la línea y proveer recomendaciones para corregir el problema
  • Downtime log completed as it occurs/ Anotar cuando las maquinas no estén funcionando según como ocurra
  • Identify and communicate training needs. Provide as necessary/ Identificar y comunicar la necesidad de entrenamiento.
  • Communicate upward and downward issues concerning line performance/
  • Line safety and GMPs/ Seguridad y buenas practicas “GMP’s” en las líneas
  • Minimize Inedible and Rework and ensure proper usage of rework product/ Minimizar el desperdicio de producto y el trabajo doble y asegurar la separación apropiado del producto que sea rehecho
  • Conduct shift hand-off to on-coming Leads or designee/Pasar la información sobre el turno al líder del siguiente turno o a la persona designada
  • Leads time is 95% on the floor/ Dirige al 95% en la producción
  • Become SAP trained and Microsoft software knowledgeable (Excel, word, etc)/ Entrenarse en SAP y programas de computadora de Microsoft (Excel, word, etc)
  • Required Meetings: Safety Huddles and Production Huddles
  • Manufacturing Lead is responsible for Grinding and Spice Room./El lider del departamento es responsible por la area de Grinding y Cuarto de Especias
