Position is with The Taste of Smithfield cafe' - a casual dining establishment located on Main Street in Smithfield, Virginia. Responsible for preparing tables for meals; advising on menu choices; taking customer orders; serving drinks & food; cleaning up before, after and during servings; and processing payment transactions. Follows all food safety and food hygiene guidelines, while providing an excellent dining experience to patrons.

Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

  1.  Greets, seats and presents menus to customers. 
  2. Communicates customer orders to kitchen staff; ensures orders are assembled properly prior to delivery and verifies customer satisfaction.
  3. Refills customer drink orders throughout meal.
  4. Observes principles of safe food handling and service.  Follows all relevant health department rules and regulations.
  5. Processes payments.
  6. Takes out trash.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and previous retail or food service experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge & awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Ability to operate a POS register system including processing credit card and cash transactions, preferred.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player with a willingness to help other employees when needed.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of culinary terminology, preferred.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekend and evening shifts.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Ability to lift, carry, deliver and serve from trays weighing up to 50 lbs. throughout assigned shifts.
  • Frequently required to bend, twist walk and stand for long periods of time; use hands to reach or feel, and talk or hear.
