Overview

The Refrigeration Engineering Specialist, working as part of the Corporate Engineering staff, will help our facilities manage their refrigeration systems by specializing in and focusing on all aspects of industrial refrigerations; including but not limited to design, development, implementation of projects, troubleshooting and optimizing existing systems, and providing advice on Process Safety Management matters.

Responsibilities

  1. Support facilities in the US and participate in activities of operations in China and Europe as required
  2. Work directly with facilities on projects and issues regarding refrigeration systems
  3. Develop designs including selecting equipment, obtaining quotes and scheduling work as requested
  4. Have the ability to interface with professional refrigeration engineering resources at high levels during the design and development of projects
  5. Have the ability to manage multiple projects in different fields, ensuring adherence to proper protocols and practices
  6. Manage the planning and budgeting process for various engineering improvement, with the goal of meeting project expectations and time requirements
  7. Track project progress, implementation, and costs
  8. Implement new system and standardize equipment requirements
  9. Research and assist in testing new technology
  10. Have the ability to assess and understand complex operations and systems to support production management
  11. Have the ability to identify and correct deficiencies within existing systems by performing load, charge, and relief calculations
  12. Participate in Corporate sponsored training, such as Brown Belt courses at Iowa State
  13. Assist facilities with PSM compliance as requested

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 10+ years related experience and/or training in operations, maintenance and optimization of Ammonia Refrigeration systems; required.
  • Bachelor's degree; preferred.
  • RETA CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator) certification, International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration ANSI/IIAR2 certification, Garden City Program Operator II certification, or equivalent certification from another nationally recognized ammonia training program; required.
  • Possess a deep theoretical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and have the ability to apply that knowledge to the roles and responsibilities of the position
  • Electrical experience and troubleshooting in low and high voltage circuits, motors, and controls
  • Strong reading, math, writing, analytical skill required
  • Perform assigned tasks efficiently with minimum supervision

This role has no supervisory duties.

  • Plant environment will include wet, damp, cold, slippery and loud conditions with moving parts, and vibrating parts.
