Your Opportunity

The Director, Talent Acquisition – Immigration Programs oversees a team dedicated to ensuring a positive employee and candidate experience, be responsible for attracting, hiring, coaching and developing team members, and thinking long-term to build and improve immigration recruiting and processes. The role is responsible for designing immigration policies specific to Smithfield’s unique employee needs, maintaining and forging relationships with our immigration partners and delivering the operational processes, programs and policies to support and execute on Smithfield’s talent strategy. Additionally, the role will strive toward frustration-free employee and stakeholder experiences as they navigate the landscape of immigration, both for today and for the future.

Core Responsibilities

  • Hiring and developing a team of immigration specialists focused on delivering customer service and case management support to employees, candidates and internal business partners.
  • Ensuring team receives regular immigration training and updates via work with immigration service providers, participation in webinars, seminars or conferences, and in internal meetings.
  • Working with other team members and immigration service providers as needed to identify process gaps and develop solutions with a focus on seamless immigration support delivery to ensure optimal employee and stakeholder experience.
  • Communicating regular updates to Global Immigration leadership and other stakeholders both verbally and in writing using data and metrics to measure success of process improvement projects through completion.
  • Building durable, sustainable, and flexible processes that produce positive and reliable results.
  • Using lessons learned and mechanisms to support and contribute to business and operational future focus planning.
  • Designing and conducting regular and deliberate inspection of the team’s products and services to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Experience working multiple projects or cases independently in environment with changing priorities.
  • Experience working with confidential information.
  • Strong emphasis on high-touch professional customer service to employees and stakeholders.
  • Management of Smithfield’s end-to-end US immigration program.
  • Assessing Smithfield’s current US immigration program against internal feedback and external market trends and recommend and implement strategic and operational program changes.
  • Leading multiple initiatives to enhance Smithfield’s immigration program, drive efficiencies, compliance and identify creative solutions to meet the needs of a rapidly increasing global and mobile employee base.
  • Liaising with foreign national population and partner law firm/s to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes for both the employee and the company.
  • Consulting with and educating managers and business leaders on immigration regulations and guidelines to ensure consistent and applicable immigration support.
  • Providing guidance on all US Immigration compliance matters including visa process practices to managers, HR business partners, talent acquisition staff and employees.
  • Ensuring accuracy in the immigration application filings related to employment-based Non-Immigrant and Immigrant petitions, including PERM applications.
  • Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with worldwide HR and business leadership across all geographies as US immigration knowledge center.
  • Providing subject matter expertise and ensuring compliance with appropriate regulations/guidelines.
  • Ensuring all filings, including applications for immigration and visas are completed accurately and in a timely manner, in partnership with external counsel.
  • Maintain outside partner relationships with global immigration counsel and other immigration partners.
  • Monitor all active immigration cases, research and address/resolve complex assignment issues, including escalations; identify and communicate service resolution to all parties.
  • Represent Smithfield and our immigration thought leadership at key conferences and forums.
  • Provide counseling relative to immigration policies to employees at all levels, including executive levels, on a worldwide basis.
  • Development of the proper infrastructure and data analytics to ensure visibility on program spend, employee satisfaction, provider SLA’s and quality assurance.

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 10+ year’s related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Minimum 7+ years of employment-based immigration experience as an Immigration Manager or Paralegal either at a law firm or in-house, managing nonimmigrant (H, L, E, TN) and immigrant (PERM, I-140, I-485) cases in US.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in management, required.
  • Immigration or program management experience, either within a law firm or in-house in an organization with a significant volume of unit production work such as in an accounting, mobility, recruiting or HR role a significant volume focusing on technology and innovative projects.
  • Experience in managing a small to mid-size team with successful track record of recruiting and developing talent.
  • Multinational immigration delivery services experience.
  • Experience managing large volumes of complex immigration cases.
  • US immigration expertise is required but it would also be advantageous to have worked in a Global team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to empathize with employees.
  • Ability to influence others to achieve results.
  • A true passion for delivering a great customer experience.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to country norms, global cultures and practices.
  • A high level of professionalism and flexibility are required for consultations and issue resolution at varying times during the day (including evenings or early mornings).
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to Talent Acquisition staff.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
