    This position is responsible for keeping the interior and exterior of buildings clean and in orderly condition. Perform cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors and emptying trash, cleaning building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them. Additional essential functions may be applicable to specific jobs.  May assist with cleaning in the warehouse using a motorized sweeper.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Gather and empty office trash.
    • Keep facility exterior clean and trash free. Empty all trash receptacles.
    • Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
    • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
    • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
    • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
    • Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
    • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Proven working experience as a janitor, preferred.
    • Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
    • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
    • Integrity and ability to work independently
    • Must be able to read and write
    • Can understand and follow verbal and written instructions
    • Competent and trusting to comply with federal inspection programs and company safety and health policies

    • Ability to climb, move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms
    • Can bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout your entire shift
    • Can walk long distances
    • Repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs.
    • Can lift heavy objects, which can weigh up to 60lbs.
    • Ability to perform a task requiring continuous/repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching hands, flexing and extending arms
    • Ability to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12 hour shift
    • Ability to work while wearing a hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes

    • The DC environment will include extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical equipment such as forklifts/hi-lifts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals, including sanitation/cleaning chemicals.
    • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the loading areas.
