    This is an exciting time to be in IT&T (Information Technology & Transformation) at Smithfield Foods.  The IT&T team is a significant force in leading the digital transformation for Smithfield.  The Infrastructure Services team is an integral part of the digital transformation.  Identifying and implementing technology initiatives across the enterprise, the Infrastructure Services team is positioned to identify opportunities for innovative and the creative application of technology to deliver efficiencies, standardize the portfolio and create a flexible technology foundation.

     

    Tightly coupled with our Business Relationship Management team and Enterprise Solution Architecture team the Plant IT Analyst has a voice in providing creative ideas and innovations which will help drive the success of Smithfield IT&T.

     

    The Plant IT Analyst candidate should have an innovative mindset focused on continuous improvement of plant operations. Digital savvy (understands or has experience with IIOT RPA,AI, Analytics, APIs, Agile, VR, AR, apps, ecommerce).  Have vast experience and able to do process documentation effectively. Provides thought leadership in systems support, design and deployment to promote the strategy, management and oversight of Digital Transformation as it relates to IoT and its value add to business operations in the following areas: Plant operations, Warehousing and Logistics, Purchasing, Supply Planning, Quality Assurance and Food Safety.  Leads assigned projects and acts as a back-up for other Plant IT Analysts.  Responsible for the implementation, proactive monitoring and technical support of computer systems, equipment and network administration.  Intellectual curiosity, vendor management skills and be an effective communicator.

    Core Responsibilities

    Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:

    • Identifies data collection opportunities which would result in improved business operations and effectiveness. Identifies and recommends continuous improvement solutions and changes.
    • Directly interacts with Business Relationship Managers and Business Analysts in developing and implementing business improvement solutions.
    • Implements and provides assistance with the support and troubleshooting of computer systems, telecommunications network, telephone equipment, cell phones, printers, peripherals, copiers, fax machines, time clocks and video surveillance systems. Works with key users to troubleshoot manufacturing applications and interfaces; provides problem resolution. Maintain and enhance systems as required to support changing business and technical needs.
    • Coordinates communications with Service Desk, vendors, outside contractors and corporate systems administrators.
    • Monitors and identifies needs and gaps related to information security, backups, archiving, and disaster recovery.
    • Oversees the acquisition of technology equipment and supplies. Maintains equipment inventory. Repairs minor equipment malfunctions and recycles defective/obsolete equipment.
    • Understands and participates in the program specifications and development related to data collection systems.
    • Documents technical systems and procedures.
    • Performs analytical and support activities on-site and remotely for multiple plant locations with a regional focus. With additional opportunities for participation in plant activities nationwide.
    • Leads or participates on implementation teams deploying new systems and operational processes in accordance with strategic business initiatives. Assists in the development of detailed implementation and contingency plans. Provides user and management training before, during and after system deployments. Prepares site infrastructure as needed to accommodate new systems and processes. Travels to implementation sites, when appropriate, to assist in on-site deployment and training.
    • Builds and maintain relationships with key plant and corporate management and with affiliated independent operating companies to identify and implement best practices and technology across the enterprise. Establishes and maintains productive relationships with equipment and system vendors.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, IT or related field and 3+ years’ experience maintaining computer equipment including network systems; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
    • Understanding of applications development environment, data collections, data interfaces, data management and infrastructure capabilities and constraints.
    • Ability to analyze, translate, and define business requirements into technical solutions.
    • Experience with Windows Operating Systems.
    • Knowledge of operational characteristics of information services systems, hardware and software. Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques used in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of systems, networks, and applications.

    • The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant.  The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
    • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
